They have a fleet of electric buses that won't go anywhere because of the cold weather. Can we please get off of this electric, solar, and wind crap?
Don't know about Germany. But the US could hardly be described as "on" electric, solar, and wind crap.

We are pathetically lagging the civilized world in proportional renewable energy usage.

Good, that shit don't work. Instead of calling it renewable they should call it 'unreliable'.
Combustible engines fail too. After all of these years they still don't totally love weather extremes. They are obviously a whole lot better now then they were in their infancy. I'm sure you can attest to many car failures due to cold weather in your lifetime.

Technology over the years seems to have "almost" perfected the reliability of gas engines. Do you seriously believe that the world is incapable improving the technology in renewable energy ?

Yes and No. If we were down to our last drop of oil, yes. As it stands now, because of greed, No.

Besides, as it stands now, the carbon footprint to make some of these products is larger than any savings they might provide.
There is no real "alternative" to fossil fuels. Only consumer demand would change that, if we allowed natural economic events to happen. Demand is weak now for renewables but getting stronger. And there no economic reason not to continue the development and utilization of renewable energy. It's 100% politics. The blather about Texas is a classic example.

I agree about the greed in oil, both the good and the bad. The good: the greed keeps it cheap and marketable. The bad: the high marketability causes governments to value the oil more than the lives of it's citizens.
I was talking about the greed in renewables.
Hopefully there is greed (profitability) in renewable energies. Without that they don't stand a chance.
