Pretty much what teachers do now - j.p. - 12-13-2021 Only this is more lucrative and fun Apology to US teachers over 'dash for cash' charity (msn.com) Quote:In a statement, the Sioux Falls Stampede and the CU Mortgage Direct bank said: "Although our intent was to provide a positive and fun experience for teachers, we can see how it appears to be degrading and insulting towards the participating teachers and the teaching profession as a whole. RE: Pretty much what teachers do now - k.d. - 12-13-2021 This is one of those articles that has so many problems that it is hard to know where to start. RE: Pretty much what teachers do now - j.p. - 12-14-2021 Teachers are always using their own money and/or begging for classroom supplies that used to be covered by taxpayers. I don't see much wrong with the hockey fundraiser compared to what I see around here. It looked like fun. RE: Pretty much what teachers do now - k.d. - 12-14-2021 Solve the problem: Get rid of the over-bloated, corrupt, inept Dept of Education, disband NEA, blow-up the teachers' Union, go back to teaching the 3rs, don't let kids go to school until they are 5 and your on your way to a successful education system. RE: Pretty much what teachers do now - j.p. - 12-14-2021 How would that solve the money problem RE: Pretty much what teachers do now - k.d. - 12-14-2021 Getting rid of the Dept of ED would free up the actual schools from having to deal with fed mandates which are expensive and require additional school personnel. How ridiculous to have federal dictates for schools. The people in Cajun country have nothing in common with schools in Maine or Oregon or WI or AZ In focusing on the 3rs, you could eliminate football fields and seating, eliminate basketball courts and baseball diamonds and all the land and expenses that those entail. If you want sports, let the private sector deal with that. That alone would save more than enough money to buy crayons. Get rid of all these overpriced buildings that are cold, unwelcoming and look like mental institutions and build something aesthetically warm and organic to encourage an atmosphere of calm and conducive environment to learning. RE: Pretty much what teachers do now - j.p. - 12-14-2021 The main, certainly the most expensive, federal mandate are civil rights related . And that is to provide free and appropriate education for handicapped kids. Most people think that this is a good idea. States have similar mandates. The second largest mandate to provide education for the socially disadvantaged (po kids). In both instances the states and locals pay most of the cost. Everything else is under total local control. The rest of what you posted I agree. Literally the 3rs. If kids can master those, every other subject could probably be handled in a different way. One comment about the sports etc. Diversion is absolutely crucial to learning. And a comment about the buildings. The school is the town center for small communities And one more thing. Eliminate grade 12. Make 3-4 old kindergarten a real thing rather than a glorified daycare. |
